Castors Braine eliminated in EuroCup round of 16, Julie Vanloo advances

Castors Braine failed to qualify for the quarterfinals of the EuroCup for women’s teams. The Belgian champions lost their second leg against Lublin in Poland 68-59 on Thursday, having already lost 67-77 on home soil last week.

In Poland, Castors trailed 15-9 after the first quarter, but they kept fighting. At halftime, the score was 37-31. Early in the third quarter, the Belgians briefly tied the game (41-41), but Lublin ultimately pulled ahead slightly (56-47).
Robbi Ryan led her team to victory with sixteen points and five assists. For Braine, De Yona Gaston provided the most rebound with thirteen points and eight rebounds, while Anna Gret Asi and Gergana Ivanova each scored twelve.

Julie Vanloo will advance to the next round. With eight points (0/2 3-pointers, 3/4 2-pointers, 2/2 free throws) and ten assists in 22 minutes and 38 seconds, she helped her Turkish club Mersin to an 84-65 victory over Lithuanian Vilnius.
