One of the top players in the WNBA is Sabrina Ionescu. Ionescu has led the Liberty to the WNBA Finals, despite being overshadowed this season by rookie sensation Caitlin Clark and current MVP A’Ja Wilson.

Ionescu has been selected to three consecutive WNBA All-Star teams despite having only been in the league for five years.However, she also gained notoriety for dating NFL star Hroniss Grasu, another athlete.

They made their relationship public in 2021, became engaged in 2023, and were married in a Laguna Beach, California, ceremony in March 2024, which was attended by famous people like Vanessa Bryant.

She got engaged before the 2023 season, when she signed a shoe contract and won the Three-Point contest.

Long-time boyfriend Hroniss Grasu accepted Ionescu’s proposal, and the two were married in March 2024. Grasu, an offensive lineman in the NFL, is a free agent right now. After attending Oregon from 2010 to 2014, the Bears selected him in the third round in 2015.

After playing for Chicago for three years, he began to move about the league, most notably with the Ravens, Dolphins, Titans, 49ers, and Raiders. Grasu played college football at the University of Oregon before being selected by the NFL.

Ionescu started attending the same university the next year, in 2016. She played basketball for the Ducks there and completed her bachelor’s degree in three years.

There was no overlap between Ionescu and Grasu at Oregon. His final football season at Oregon was in 2014 because he entered the NFL Draft in 2015, and she began playing for the Ducks in 2016. It’s unclear when their relationship began, but it’s likely that they met after he had already joined the NFL.

The WNBA player told PEOPLE that she wanted to use the design to honor her family and heritage when discussing her signature shoe line with Nike. “It’s shaped me into who I am, the basketball player I am, and the person I am,” she stated.

Grasu was born in Northridge, California, in 1991 and has Romanian ancestry with Ionescu. After graduating from high school, he was a three-star center and was named an All-American in both 2013 and 2014.

Additionally, he was a finalist for the Rimington Trophy, which is given to the top centre in the nation.

In January 2023, the couple were engaged. Grasu worked with Ionescu’s representatives to design the idea. Grasu surprised Ionescu with a ring when she thought she was doing an interview with GQ. In March 2024, they tied the knot.

She accepted a marriage proposal during a busy year in her career, which included releasing her signature shoe with Nike and winning the WNBA 3-point competition with a record-breaking 37 points. Her long-time partner, NFL athlete Hroniss Grasu, proposed to her in a lavish rooftop ceremony in January 2023.

“I was completely shocked and caught off guard,” Ionescu said on TikTok. “I was just so happy.” Later, in March 2024, the couple tied the knot. The couple has kept a low profile during their relationship and hasn’t shared many specifics about their romance. Even so, it’s evident that Grasu supports Ionescu because the professional football player regularly attends her games.
