In 2023, Julie Allemand didn’t join the Chicago Sky, but she was determined to put her all into the Belgian Cats. She won gold in Slovenia/Ljubljana after a fantastic European Championship. The Belgian guard will return to WNBA action next spring/summer.

Allemand, who helped the Cats secure a spot in Paris last week at the Olympic qualifying tournament at Antwerp’s Sportpaleis, will play for the Los Angeles Sparks.

In her two previous WNBA seasons with the Indiana Fever and Chicago Sky, Julie Allemand averaged 5.8 points and 4.6 assists. “Julie is an internationally respected point guard with WNBA experience. She’s a tremendous floor leader and helps everyone improve,” says coach Curt Miller.

The WNBA season kicks off on May 14. During the Olympic Games, the competition will be on hold for a month so that Julie Allemand, among others, can focus on the Belgian Cats. Ann Wauters became the WNBA champion with the Californian team in 2016.

Emma Meesseman and Kim Mestdagh won the WNBA title with the Washington Mystics in 2019. Belgian Cat Julie Vanloo will travel to the Washington Mystics in April for training camp. She hopes to become the sixth Belgian player in the WNBA. Hind Ben Abdelkader (2018) also played briefly in the WNBA.
