New York Liberty star guard Sabrina Ionescu will not be able to see action in the 2026 season of Unrivaled because of an injury, the 3-on-3 basketball league announced on Wednesday.

“Unrivaled today announced that Sabrina lonescu was ruled unable to participate in on-court activities during the 2026 Unrivaled season due to an injury sustained during the WNBA season,” the league’s announcement said via a statement on Thursday (h/t Aya Abdeen of Last Word On Sports).

However, the former Oregon Ducks star will still make her presence felt “through off-court initiatives and partnership opportunities, including select on-air appearances with TNT Sports.”
The four-time WNBA All-Star also shared her true feelings about this development.

“While I’m disappointed I couldn’t play this season, I’ll be rooting for the Phantom,” Ionescu said. “I’m looking forward to working with Unrivaled through content and broadcast opportunities and continuing to support the league’s success.”
Even without Ionescu, Phantom BC is not lacking star power, as they have an active roster consisting of Dana Evans, Kelsey Plum, Satou Sabally, Aliyah Boston, Natasha Cloud, Kiri Iriafen and Tiffany Hayes. The team is coached by Roneeka Hodges.

Phantom BC is looking to have a much better campaign this time around after failing to make the playoffs in the 2025 inaugural season and placing last in the standings with just 4-10 record.
Their 2026 season, however, did not start with a positive note, as Phantom BC lost its season opener against new Unrivaled franchise, Breeze BC.’

Sans Ionescu, Phantom BC will look to bounce back and notch their first win of the season this coming Saturday, when they face off against the Lunar Owls BC at Sephora Arena in Medley, Florida.
