The Detroit Tigers are looking to make the MLB playoffs for a third straight season in 2026. The Tigers feature some of the league’s youngest players, yet they still have enough depth to remain competitive in the American League Central.

One of the team’s most reliable contributors is utility man Zach McKinstry, who is preparing for his fourth season in Detroit after being acquired from the Chicago Cubs ahead of the 2023 MLB season.

McKinstry gives manager A.J. Hinch a dependable, versatile option with his ability to play almost every position, frequently making starts on the left side of the infield and in the outfield wherever the team needs him.

Fortunately for Detroit, he is also a cost‑controlled player and remains under team control for two more years.

As McKinstry works toward another strong season in 2026, he has also stayed active in the community, making appearances as his presence grows thanks to his on‑field performance.

On Sunday, he took to social media to share a special announcement on his Instagram story. McKinstry revealed that he would be making a guest appearance at Desert Edge High School to speak at Purpose Church. He has been vocal about the role his faith plays in his life and career, and this event gives him an opportunity to share that message.

The announcement post read, “We’ve got a very special guest… 👉 One‑on‑One with Zach McKinstry on Sunday, February 8th. Zach is an MLB All‑Star with the Detroit Tigers, but even more importantly, he’s a follower of Jesus 🙌.”

His community involvement mirrors the growth he has shown on the field as well. McKinstry is coming off a true breakout campaign in 2025, a season that elevated his profile both in Detroit and across the league.

The 30-year-old earned his first All Star selection and played a key role in helping the Tigers reach the divisional round for the second straight year, where they came just one win short of advancing to the ALCS.

Across 144 appearances, he posted a .259 batting average, .333 on‑base percentage, .771 OPS, 12 home runs, 19 stolen bases and 49 RBIs while providing steady defense and versatility. His performance was further validated this offseason when he secured his first Silver Slugger Award.

As the Tigers look to extend their competitive window, McKinstry’s continued growth will be central to their plans.
