Matildas star Sam Kerr and her wife Kristie Mewis have given a first glimpse into their “perfect and beautiful” wedding.

The soccer players tied the knot on New Year’s Eve in Swan Valley, Western Australia, at Villa Dionysus.

Days later, the couple has shared more photos from the day, and exclusive access with Vogue Australia.

“We wanted it to feel warm and fun with lots of good food and comfort,” they told the publication. “Oh, and it’s New Year’s Eve, so we wanted it to be a great party.”

Their son, Jagger Mewis-Kerr, who was born in May, was also carried down the aisle by Sam.

For the occasion, Sam wore a single-breasted tuxedo by Hugo Boss, and Kristie wore gowns by Berta and Kyha Studios.

When it came to celebrating, they said they wanted “people to feel loved at our wedding”.

And love was certainly in the air!

“A dream come true for Sam & Kristie 🖤🤍,” their friend Peta Melling wrote on Instagram with a carousel from the day.

In the lead-up to the wedding, Kristie shared her excitement, and details about their nuptials.

Speaking on her podcast Mewis Squared, on December 20, she said the moment with Jagger was going to be special.

“That’s going to be gut-wrenching for me, like I will sob when that happens,” she said at the time.

During the episode, she also revealed that the couple wrote their own vows.

“I’m not going to be able to get through them, I’m so nervous of just sobbing through them,” the midfielder for the United States national team and West Ham United said before their nuptials.

For their guest list, Kristie had also confirmed on her podcast that she and Sam would be surrounded by 120 of their loved ones.

“It’s a lot of people,” she said. “I know people have way bigger weddings than that, but that’s a lot for me to wrap my head around.”

“We don’t want to make it a big deal, we want to normalise it,” she added, referencing the fact that they were having a same-sex wedding.

“But at the same time I do want to acknowledge and celebrate that it’s a little bit different and that maybe we should put a little more thought into what we’re doing as two women to show other people this is normal, this is OK, and this is beautiful.”

The couple got engaged in 2023.

“My friends and family were waiting nearby at my friend’s house to surprise me after the proposal,” Kristie told Vogue Australia about that special day.

“We didn’t plan the wedding right away. We wanted to enjoy the engagement period, and not feel pressure to get married immediately.”
