Jelly Roll has a whole bunch of face tattoos. He did not get them to show off. In fact, his explanation will surprise you.

Everything about Jelly Roll gets noticed. His dramatic weight loss, his newly clean-shaven face, his marriage to Bunnie Xo. And oh yes, his singing. He has become one of the hottest country superstars. Albums like Beautifully Broken and Whitsitt Chapel staked Jelly Roll’s reputation in the genre. People also like this guy as a person because of his intense honesty. Jelly Roll has fully owned up to a troubled past and moved beyond it with grace and dignity.

Jelly Roll Is a Changed Man, Inside and Out

He may not see himself as a role model, but at 41, he is nevertheless one. Jelly Roll has also been candid about the fact that his new self did not emerge overnight. It has been a long, steady, sometimes challenging process. A worthwhile one, for sure. He is admittedly much healthier and happier now. The person who formerly weighed more than 500 pounds is gone. Jelly Roll’s new, svelte self is here to stay.

His Face Tattoos Are Somewhat Controversial

An aspect of Jelly Roll’s physical being that often draws comments (sometimes not very friendly ones) is his profusion of face tattoos. You cannot miss them. His forehead and cheeks have a bunch of inked images. Some think it’s pure showboating, a form of silently saying ‘look at me.’ But Jelly Roll refutes that completely. His explanation for all those tats will surprise you.

Shame Takes Many Unexpected Forms, Jelly Roll Said

Per Men’s Health, the “Need a Favor” singer delved into the rationale behind all the face art. He shared, “The way shame sometimes shows itself is not always the way we expect it to be. We think shame is somebody in the streets on their knees, with their head down.” Nope, not in Jelly Roll’s world. According to him, shame can manifest itself as pride, bravado, guilt, or insecurity. He knows because he’s been there.

“I was the biggest, the loudest, the toughest, the meanest, the growliest, the fattest. There’s normally deep inside of that a really, really small, insecure human.” Thus, the face tattoos were a part of all that. Per the outlet, along with all the other major transformations in his life, Jelly Roll “may remove the face tattoos.” Considering how different he feels about himself now, that would not be a shock.
